If you are looking for a better clutch for
your CTS V?
Look no further. The Z06 LS7 style clutch is
the way to go. You get a clutch that can
hold the extra power that you have given
your CTS V and a very nice pedal that is
easy to push. The number one advantage of
this clutch is you will remove close to 28
lbs from the rotating mass. What this means
is 30+ more horsepower and better
acceleration.
We have written a little information article
for you to read on the installation of this
clutch so that you might get some insight
into how we give you that extra power.
The picture below is at stock CTS V clutch
setup. As you can see this one is in bad
shape. This is what happens when the holding
power of the clutch is not matched for the
performance upgrade. On this CTS V it has
our RXx-2 performance upgrade with a Magna
Charger blower system on it. Just a bit to
much power for the stock clutch.
If you look closely you can see just how big
and bulky the duel mass flywheel is. All
this weight means loss of horsepower.

|
We
are going to get rid of this very heavy
clutch set up and give this CTS V what is needs.
A new Z06 LS7 style clutch set up. The advantage
besides reducing weight will be faster
acceleration and very positive engagement. As
you can see from the picture below the flywheel
is not very bulky and clutch disc is more
performance oriented. This means more horsepower
to the road where it counts. |
|
Now
installation of this clutch is very neat.
We
do not do any transmission cutting or anything
else that will change how the operation of the
clutch from the way you are used to it now is.
The only thing you will notice is a little
firmer pedal. Will feel the way the Z06 C6
clutch is today. Very smooth engagement with
very little effort. You will get faster shifts
with less effort. You can see from the next
picture how clean it looks installed were the
old clutch used to be. |
 |
|
You
might not be able to see it but
this clutch assembly is closer to the engine.
The old clutch flywheel is so big that the
pressure plate and disc are closer to the
transmission than the engine. By moving the
clutch closer to the engine we shift rotating
weight. This means less vibration which can
damage internal bearings and we are able to get
higher RPM's safely. In turn more power. This
also means that the original slave cylinder and
throw out bearing will need to be longer to
takes up the excess room. Most companies will
just shim the slave cylinder. Not us we use a
new slave cylinder and bearing that take up the
added clearance for perfect clutch operation.
The picture below shows you what I am talking
about.
|
 |
|
You
can see that the slave cylinder and bearing
are in the same stock
location without any case modifications or
shimming. You are able to reach the clutch
bleeder very easy as well as the clutch line.
This makes for a very factory look. The kind we
like. Once installed we recommend a 500 mile
break in period to make sure all components of
the clutch have mated properly. After that you
are ready to race. This clutch will give you
many years of hassle free operation while
providing you with more power. This set up is
not just for the performance of mind. If you
have a stock CTS V and want more power and
better acceleration without any engine
modifications? This is the way to go. You can
keep your CTS V stock and under warranty but
with more power than a original one. |
